Where you’ll sit your exams

Our Sunderland centre is easily accessible for drivers across Sunderland, Durham and Wearside. Your ADR training is completed online over Zoom, so you only need to travel to the Sunderland centre for one day — the final day of your course — to complete your practical demonstrations and sit your ADR examinations. By car

Durham Road (the A690) runs south-west from Sunderland city centre towards the A19. The church and Haver Hall are just off the main road at Dunelm South, close to Barnes Park.

  • From Sunderland city centre: head south-west on the A690 Durham Road through Bishopwearmouth; the church and Haver Hall are just off the main road at Dunelm South.
  • From the A19: exit onto the A690 eastbound towards Sunderland city centre; the venue is on the right as you approach Barnes Park.
  • From Newcastle and Washington: take the A1231 or A19 south, joining the A690 towards the city centre.

By rail & bus

Sunderland station, served by Northern, Grand Central and the Tyne and Wear Metro, is around a mile and a half away in the city centre; Park Lane Interchange, the Metro and bus hub, is slightly closer. From either, the venue is a short taxi or a bus ride out along Durham Road. Check National Rail or Nexus for the latest times.

Frequent buses run along the A690 Durham Road corridor from Park Lane Interchange. Routes and frequencies change, so please check Go North East, Stagecoach or Traveline before travelling on your exam day.
